In our previous post, we examined the significance of a remarkable question an Expert in the Law posed to Jesus. We may not realize the significance of that question (who is my neighbor) until we understand what Jesus said. As Jesus relates and tells the expert in the law that his perception fell short of what God wanted, he said this. A man was traveling on a pretty normal path from Jericho to Jerusalem. It wasn’t an unusual journey to get there and it was a path that was well-traveled. Nonetheless, it was a path that perhaps his audience was familiar with.

Jesus Sends Out the Seventy-Two

After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. 4 Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

When we study the various teachings of other faiths, there are a few trends or common concepts which we can identify. But, the point should never be to say why Christianity is better, or that many people recognize there is a God out there somewhere but no one knows whose God is the true God.
